Toronto Dominion Centre

Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Toronto's Dominion Centre is a textbook study in mid-century modern architecture. Black steel, glass, and repeating geometric patterns create a sense of precision and simplicity that results in a timeless design.

Over three days, I stopped by the buildings before daybreak and afternoon hours. Experiencing the architecture in different conditions was really a test for the camera and opportunities for composition, perspective, symmetry, and lighting. All photos were captured handheld or by resting the camera on an available flat surface. Clean lines and repeating grids become almost abstract, while the changing light adds depth and dimension within the architecture.

What makes the Toronto Dominion Centre particularly captivating is its restraint. Every line, proportion, and material is unapologetically intentional.
